Types of Braces

Self-Ligating

Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces. However, self-ligating braces do not require the use of elastics, which means fewer appointments and less friction on the tooth.

Self-ligating braces come with traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets. They are the same size as metal braces, but use a specialised clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth into place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure placed on the tooth, and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.

Ceramic

Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, they are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns.

Although they are visually less prominent, they require more attention to oral hygiene because ceramic braces are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.

SureSmile®

Average treatment time with SureSmile is almost 40%* faster than conventional braces.*

(*Based on a comparison of 1,849 patients treated conventionally to 4,376 patients treated with SureSmile.)

Through the use of SureSmile technology, your orthodontist can offer you a ‘braces experience’ that provides:

  • Shorter treatment times
  • Fewer office visits
  • Less overall discomfort
  • High quality results

Our technology-driven orthodontic process offers several important benefits that make the whole ‘braces experience’ much easier for patients than conventional orthodontics!

Shorter Treatment Times

You’ve probably heard from friends or family that wearing braces is a long-term commitment, taking more than two years on average. With SureSmile orthodontic treatment, getting braces isn’t what it used to be. You’ll get outstanding results in less time with SureSmile technology.

Fewer Office Visits

With SureSmile, patients spend less time in treatment and make fewer visits to the orthodontist. The custom SureSmile archwire provides smoother more efficient movement.

Less Overall Discomfort

Anyone who has worn braces will probably tell you that wire adjustments and changes were the least favourite part of the process because they usually caused discomfort. Fortunately, the SureSmile system is engineered to maximise therapeutic efficiency of each wire, significantly reducing the number of adjustments needed. This means fewer episodes of discomfort over the course of your treatment.

High-Quality Results

Instead of the doctor bending an archwire by hand, a SureSmile wire is custom-shaped by a robot. When the wire is inserted, each tooth moves directly to the prescribed position. It’s this precise movement that enables such great results with a shorter treatment time.
